Roar Beyond Barriers

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the average family spends 40+ hours per week caring for their child while they are in active treatment. Parents must take time off from work, or in many cases leave their job to care for their child. Often in dual-family homes, the working parent has to take a second job to pay for mounting medical costs and the loss of income.

The Max Cure Foundation’s Roar Beyond Barriers program provides financial support to low-income and military families who have a child battling cancer to help ease some of the burdens on the family while dealing with the child’s diagnosis. The program consists of three parts including monthly gift cards, an emergency assistance fund, and back to school assistance.

Monthly Financial Support

The Max Cure Foundation assists qualified families with financial support through the provision of monthly gift cards to be used towards necessities such as food, clothing and toiletries. MCF interacts with hospital social workers that refer families with children in active treatment and meet program qualifications. The social workers provide a list of qualified candidates, of which MCF’s Executive Director and Board of Directors select those families to participate in the program. Upon receipt of all required information by the social worker, families selected for the program will receive their first gift card(s) within 30 days of registration, and every month thereafter while the child is in active treatment and sufficient funding for the program remains available.

How to Apply

The Max Cure Foundation currently does not accept unsolicited requests for monthly financial support. All applications must be submitted from a social worker from one of our partner hospitals, or by a social worker from a non-participating hospital based upon urgent and unmet needs. To request funding assistance, please download the application below and return it to Max Cure by either:

1. Emailing it to our RBB Program Co-ordinator here,
2. Fax it to 201-569-5597, or
3. Mail it to 560 Sylvan Avenue, Suite 1225 Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632

Emergency Assistance Fund

The Max Cure Foundation provides emergency assistance to low-income and military families who have a child in active treatment for cancer and who are currently experiencing pressing and immediate financial hardship as a direct result of the child’s diagnosis. The emergency assistance can be used to pay expenses such as rent/mortgage, electricity, gas, medical expenses, car payments and other critical monthly living expenses. Financial assistance is made possible because of generous donors. These funds are made available for families with the greatest need. Any child diagnosed with cancer on or before his/her 18th birthday is eligible for consideration but only families experiencing significant and immediately pressing financial hardship will be considered for financial support.

How to Apply

To apply for emergency assistance click here to download the application for completion and signature by your child’s treating physician or assigned social worker. You will receive correspondence via mail and email within three business days from our Roar Beyond Barriers Program Director requesting more information. We will need to communicate with your child’s physician or assigned social worker and must have copies of the bills for which you are requesting support prior to Board approval.

Back To School

The Max Cure Foundation’s Back to School campaign addresses the needs of the children within our Roar Beyond Barriers program, and their siblings as they start the school year, with the aim of sending them back to school prepared and with confidence.

With the help of generous donors and sponsors, our volunteer shoppers work to purchase backpacks, uniforms or school clothing, a new pair of shoes and school supplies as requested by the school for each child in our program and their school age siblings.

Roar Beyond Barriers and Thrive

We at The Max Cure Foundation have seen firsthand the different ways in which access to nutritious food can change the lives of the families affected by cancer. The difference a specialized diet can make in the lives of so many families is truly remarkable.

That’s why we’re so excited to announce a partnership with Thrive Market! Thrive is a new online shopping club offering healthy foods and wholesome products at huge discounts. Their prices are typically 25-50% lower than retail. That means for the first time, organic, healthy foods cost the same price as heavily processed, conventional alternatives.

Patient Airlift Services

Max Cure and Patient Airlift Services, a 501(c)(3) charity, coordinate to provide free air transportation throughout the Northeastern United States for pediatric cancer cases within and beyond the Roar Beyond Barriers Program for patients in need of diagnosis, treatment, or follow-up. PALS also provides flights for other humanitarian and compassionate services, as well for military personnel and their families. Roar Beyond Barriers families can inquire with the Program Coordinator, Kevin Healy, to determine their eligibility for this service. Families not in the Roar Beyond Barriers program should contact PALS for assistance. More information on PALS can be found at www.palsflight.org
