Continued efforts to pass ‘right to try’ legislation should fail

June 23, 2018The Max Cure Foundation was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Margaret and Peter Chang Foundation to help support families in the Scotch Plains, New Jersey area which is a township in Union County. Max Cure Foundation will use these grant funds to help families in these areas that experience emergency financial situations during the course of their child’s cancer treatment. This grant allows Max Cure to expand the avenues of financial assistance provided through our Roar Beyond Barriers program by creating a channel for families that are not part of Max Cure’s unique systemic support program to request aide for emergency needs. Max Cure’s Roar Beyond Barriers program is unique in that when we work with a family we offer them systemic assistance on a monthly basis as long as their child is in active treatment.
Max Cure Foundation receives numerous requests each year for help from families experiencing severe financial crises. Requests are often made for car repairs, or the inability to pay rent, assistance for travel to treatment, or to help pay for utility bills. Having a child in active cancer treatment can often create significant economic hardship for the family. “Given the significant number of families with a child on active cancer treatment, the number of requests that the Max Cure Foundation receives for emergency assistance is far greater than our capacity allows us to assist” noted Executive Director Jonathan Agin. Agin further stated, “we are honored to have been selected by the Margaret and Peter Chang Foundation for this grant as it further expands Max Cure’s ability to help more families in their darkest hour of need.”
Funds from this grant are available to families that live in Essex, Morris, Bergen, Somerset and Middlesex Counties in New Jersey with a child in active cancer treatment experiencing emergency needs. If your family is in need of emergency funds for support while your child is undergoing cancer treatment, and you live in any of these counties, you can apply by downloading our application here and returning it to our office.
