September 29, 2020Lucy lived a very traditional life with her family. She was a normal young girl who loved softball and had a great sense of humor. She had a tight knit family focused on herself, her brother Hector, her parents. One of her favorite holidays was Dias Des Los Muertos and all of the familial traditions that come along with it.
One day in October of 2019, Lucy started experiencing headaches and neurological complaints that took her to the ER. An MRI confirmed a mass that led to the diagnosis: an aggressive and difficult to treat form of brain cancer called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. The tumor is located at the brain stem, making it a lifelong treatment plan that has massive neurological impacts.
Lucy has lost the ability to talk due to the tumor. She and her family are seeking a clinical trial as she has completed radiation and there is no effective chemotherapy regime possible for this specific type of cancer. Lucy and her family continue to fight and hold out hope.
